چکیده

The aim of this study is to investigate substance P (SP) expression in rat periodontal alveolar bone after inferior alveolar nerve transection. 60 male Wistar rats were divided into six groups randomly. Mandibular alveolar bones were removed from the denervated rats according to sacrifice time points (0, 3, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after operation). Immunohistochemical staining was applied to trace the expression of SP. The mRNA and protein levels of SP in periodontal alveolar bone were quantified by real-time PCR and Western blot techniques. Positive expressions of SP were located in sensory nerve fibres and blood vessels that distributed in periodontal ligaments and alveolar bone. SP-immunopositive expressions changed at different time points as a result of denervation. Expressions of SP decreased in periodontal alveolar bone at day 3, and the lowest expression level was measured at day 7 after operation. In the late stages of the study, SP expressions increased since 14 days and then gradually got back to normal levels at 28 days. To conclude, inferior alveolar nerve transection leads to the down-regulation of SP mRNA and protein in alveolar bone. SP may also play an important role in the compensation or recovery of innervation.

Comparison of the Effects of Local Injection and Oral Intake of Diclofenac and Atorvastatin in Alveolar Bone Density Assessed with CT in Experimental Periodontitis in Rat

Objectives The first cause of tooth loss in developed countries is periodontitis. Chronic periodontitis is the most common form of periodontitis and it is characterized by loss of periodontal attachment, destruction of alveolar bone and eventual loss of teeth. Atorvastatin is a statin drug used for the treatment of high cholesterol. Statins can stop the inflammatory proc...

Lipopolysaccharide alters decorin and biglycan synthesis in rat alveolar bone osteoblasts: consequences for bone repair during periodontal disease

A prime pathogenic agent associated with periodontitis is lipopolysaccharide (LPS) derived from Porphyromonas gingivalis. This study investigated the effects of P. gingivalis LPS on osteoblasts, which are responsible for alveolar bone repair. Bone cells were obtained from explants of rat alveolar bone chips and cultured with 0-200 ng ml(-1) of P. gingivalis LPS. Porphyromonas gingivalis LPS sig...

Micro-computed tomography analysis of changes in the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone proper induced by occlusal hypofunction of rat molars

OBJECTIVE To three-dimensionally elucidate the effects of occlusal hypofunction on the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone proper of rat molars by micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). METHODS Occlusal function in the molar area was restricted by attaching an anterior bite plate on the maxillary incisors and a metal cap on the mandibular incisors of 5-week-old male Wistar rats for 1 week. ...

ارزیابی دقت رادیوگرافی بایت‌وینگ دیجیتال (CMOS) در سنجش تحلیل استخوان آلوئولار بین‌دندانی در دندان‌های خلفی

Background and ObjectiveRadiographic examination has an important role in diagnosis and treatment of periodontal patients, so this study was performed to determine the accuracy of digital bite wing (CMOS) radiography in alveolar bone resorption. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 61 teeth of 16 periodontal patients referred to the periodontoloy department of R...

Diabetes enhances periodontal bone loss through enhanced resorption and diminished bone formation.

Using a ligature-induced model in type-2 Zucker diabetic fatty (ZDF) rat and normoglycemic littermates, we investigated whether diabetes primarily affects periodontitis by enhancing bone loss or by limiting osseous repair. Diabetes increased the intensity and duration of the inflammatory infiltrate (P < 0.05). The formation of osteoclasts and percent eroded bone after 7 days of ligature placeme...
